Hello from The Moose Jaw Camera Club executive! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are now preparing for our new 2025-2026 season! Just some notes in preparation for the months ahead:
1) Your Programming Committee worked hard through the summer to plan the program for the upcoming year. Thank you toour Program Chair, Bill Wanner, as well as committee members Sheryl Parry, Georgina Gadd, Toni New, Melina Shepley and Betty Calvert for meeting throughout the summer to get things organized. The brochure for the new season is attached.
2) Our first club meeting this year will be on Monday, September 8th, 2025.
- This evening will start with a welcome and introduction of your new executive, as well as a quick overview of the 2025-26 Program and registration for the year.
- The highlight of this evening will be “Popcorn and a Slideshow” with an Open Theme. Members may bring amaximum of TEN of your favourite images to share. Please be sure they are in Jpeg, preferably between 5MB to 10MB size. Submit them on a USB to Bill Wanner prior to 6:45 the night of the meeting. As we did last year, members are asked to come just after 6:30 and help set up tables and chairs for the meeting. Bring any friends & relatives who may be interested in the club!
3) An important note: The Cosmo Centre has asked us to lock the front door during our meetings. If you happen to arrive late and the door is locked, phone Rachel Petroschuk at 306-631-3371 and she will let you in.
4) You are invited to Show & Tell!
- Our club members are doing amazing in competitions and showcasing your photos far and wide. The executive would like to recognize that and also share these accomplishments with all our club members. So, when we have an evening where we can spare a few minutes from the planned schedule, we would like to have “Show & Tell,” both as a recognition of our members’ skill and also for inspiration for us all.
- You are asked to submit any images you have for this to Toni New at newchatty@sasktel.net. Be sure to include your name, the title of your image, and where it placed in which competition or what other award or recognition it received. Submit Jpeg images from about 5MB to 10 MB. Toni will compile submitted images into slideshows throughout the year for us all to periodically enjoy when it will work in the program. Don’t be shy! Let’s see your good work!
- Also, please submit your images for our website, especially from our past Club Competitions, to Sheryl Parry at prairieparry@gmail.com. Again, submit Jpeg, 5 MB to 10 MB, including your name, title image and its placement in which competition. We want to see all of these on our website!
5) One advance note for the November Meeting:
- The November meeting will be a Zoom Presentation from our CAPA (Canadian Association of Photographic Arts) Prairie Zone Director, Allan Reich. Allan has agreed to talk to us about CAPA Judging Criteria. This will be a great learning experience, to help us know what we need in a good image as we prepare our submissions for the year. For this exercise, we will each be able to send Allan ONE image ahead of time. Allan will review them, then show them to us and give us some critique on each one over Zoom. It will be on FCFS basis, depending on the time available to Allan that night. So start thinking about which image you would like to submit to Allan. Further details will be given at the September meeting.
6) An Opportunity to Get Photographic Books for free!
- Nelson Reid, the owner of Post Horizon Books, 57 High Street West, is selling out his books and going to on-line books. Nelson has contacted us and is offering the Moose Jaw Camera Club members first options to get his photography books – free! Camera Club members are welcome to visit his store and take photography books at no charge, on Friday, August 29, 1-5 pm; Saturday, August 30, 10am-5pm; Tuesday, September 2, 1-5pm; and Wednesday September 3 and Thursday, September 4, 10am-5pm. You will need to identify yourself as a Camera Club member and take your own bags and boxes.
- Or, you may be interested to support the Library through their sale at the store Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6! Nelson is hosting a Friends of the library special book sale at his store in support of the Moose Jaw Public Library. It is usually a couple dollars a book. A PDF poster for this event is also attached to this email.
