April Update

Happy Spring!

Here is your Update for the MJCC April Events:

1. April 8, 2024 Membership Meeting

Program will consist of “Open” Slideshow and a Presentation on” Altered Reality” by Rob Harden. This will be a very informative evening, as Rob always brings interesting material to his presentations. You won’t want to miss this!

If you brought a USB with Slideshow images last meeting (which we did not get to that night) you do not need to bring any more. But if you did not submit images last month, bring a USB stick with A MAXIMUM OF FIVE of your images for the Slideshow. Members are reminded to bring any of your images that may have received some recognition or awards at any time, as well. For members who do not have the capabilities of putting your images on a flash drive, contact Rob Harden for help in that. Text: 306-681-5223; Phone: 306-693-3376; or Email: 4dogs1974@sasktel.net

2. Saturday, April 27, 2024 Outing

“Buildings of Moose Jaw” – Downtown Moose Jaw We will all meet at 2:00 p.m. at the train station and take the opportunity to shoot pictures of our downtown buildings together. After the shoot, at about 4:00, members are invited to join together for coffee at Carol’s Catering & Café at 820 N Service Road. This will also be a great opportunity for members to see what a wonderful thing Carol’s is doing for our “Moose Jaw Camera Club Gallery.”

3. “Just In Case”

If Rob Harden does not have a set of images from you for our “Just-In-Case” Slideshows, please bring a USB stick with A MAXIMUM OF 20 images for just in case a future Presenter is unable to come at the last minute. If you have them on the same USB as the Slideshow, please place these images in a separate folder on the stick. Again, the Executive now also has a couple other In-House Workshops in place for this eventuality as well.

4. Club Web Page

A reminder: Sheryl Parry, our Webmaster, is wanting to add a Gallery to our club website to showcase the winners and all entries in our Club Competitions. Please send a Jpeg image of all your past entries to Sheryl. If you have won 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of the past Club Competitions, please be sure to note that either in the image title or in a separate note to Sheryl. Also include your image Title. So, this should include your name, the date of the competition entered, your placement, if any 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and the print title. An example of how to name your image: Betty Calvert-June 2023-2nd-Magestic Mallachite Butterfly

We feel there have been so many awesome prints in our competitions, we need to show them off, so please send your images to Sheryl (in Jpeg, under 10MB size) at themoosejawcameraclub@gmail.com

5. Help, Please!

This is important! Wanda Hudson is in dire need of a few medium sized aquariums for the Workshop she will be leading at the May 13th meeting. If you have an aquarium not presently being used that you would be willing to bring to that meeting, please contact Wanda at 306-631-1440. Thanks!!

6. PRPA (Prairie Region of Photographic Arts) Information

Just note: Our club executive is hoping we will be able to host the 2025 PRPA June Outing. Wanda Hudson has agreed to be the Chair and Hilda Maier has agreed to be the Co-Chair of the planning committee for this event. It will only be able to go ahead if the membership is willing to help out. Wanda will be bringing us more information on this exciting opportunity at our next meeting!

7. Club Gallery at Carol’s Catering

And a reminder: Carol’s Catering and Café has decided to open the main side of the restaurant to an increased gallery display for Moose Jaw Camera Club members’ prints. Carol is redecorating and choosing to expand our Gallery instead of purchasing other art for their walls. This is apparently due to the large number of patrons that we are told come to the café to have coffee and view our Gallery. Such good news! Members are encouraged to bring a print or two to the April meeting for Rob to add to the Carol’s Catering and Café Camera Club Gallery. If you aren’t sure what you should bring for display, go to Carol’s for coffee or a meal some time and check it out. The food is awesome and reasonably priced – a good opportunity to enjoy a great meal and support Carol’s for her support for our club! All work displayed can be marked for sale – your choice. If you need to have a picture printed for display, contact Rob Harden at 306-693-3376 or Bob Schultz at 306-631-0511.

An opportunity for members to connect for sharing information on shooting opportunities!

Often club members have wished there was a way to share great shooting opportunities with fellow members, for example when someone see that the aurora is out. The club will be setting up a Group WhatsApp, just for this purpose. It is strictly optional. Hilda Maier will explain a little more about this at the next meeting.
