Here is your Update for the MJCC March Events:
1. March 11, 2024 Membership Meeting
Program will consist of “Open” Slideshow and a guest Presenter Branimir Gjetvaj on Environmental Photography. Branimir is a seasoned and published photographer and presenter and you are sure to take something home from his presentation!
Bring a USB stick with A MAXIMUM OF FIVE of your images for the Slideshow. Members are reminded to bring any of your images that may have received some recognition or awards at any time. For members who do not have the capabilities of putting your images on a flash drive, contact Rob Harden for help in that. Text: 306-681-5223; Phone: 306-693-3376; or Email: 4dogs1974@sasktel.net
2. Saturday, March 23, 2024 Outing
“Wildlife, Buffalo, Birds & Babies” – Buffalo Pound Provincial Park
We will all meet at 2:00 p.m. at the front gate of the Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. There is an entry fee of $10 per car. However, Seniors do not pay. Try to arrange to catch a ride with a Senior; or we will try to get people into cars with a Senior driver at the gate if you want! From there, we will travel to different areas of the Park, as people wish.
3. “Just In Case”
We are once again asking members to bring a USB stick with A MAXIMUM OF 20 images for just in case a future Presenter is unable to come at the last minute. If you have them on the same USB as the Slideshow, please place these images in a separate folder on the stick. Of note is that the Executive now also has a couple other In-House Workshops in place for this eventuality as well.
4. Club Web Page
Sheryl Parry, our Webmaster, is wanting to add a Gallery to our club website to showcase the winners and all entries in our Club Competitions. Please send a Jpeg image of all your past entries to Sheryl. If you have won 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of the past Club Competitions, please be sure to note that either in the image title or in a separate note to Sheryl. Also include your image Title. So, this should include your name, the date of the competition entered, your placement, if any 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and the print title. An example of how to name your image: Betty Calvert-June 2023-2nd-Magestic Mallachite Butterfly We feel there have been so many awesome prints in our competitions, we need to show them off, so please send your images to Sheryl (in Jpeg, under 10MB size) at themoosejawcameraclub@gmail.com
5. Help, Please!
Wanda Hudson is in need of a few medium sized aquariums for the Workshop she will be leading in the May 13th meeting. If you have an aquarium not presently being used that you would be willing to bring to that meeting, please contact Wanda at 306-631-1440. Thanks!!
6. PRPA (Prairie Region of Photographic Arts) Information
Our PRPA Rep, Hilda Maier, is reporting that there are six Spring Competitions held by PRPA. The deadline for receiving the entries is April 1st. The Spring Competitions are for Individual PRPA members only. You are encouraged to consider joining PRPA, as it is the main organization with which our club is affiliated. If anyone is interested in entering any of these competitions and/or becoming a member, all the information can be found on the PRPA website at www.prpa.photography
7. Club Gallery at Carol’s Catering
Carol’s Catering and Café has decided to open the main side of the restaurant to an increased gallery display for Moose Jaw Camera Club members’ prints. Carol is redecorating and choosing to expand our Gallery instead of purchasing other art for their walls. This is apparently due to the large number of patrons that we are told come to the café to have coffee and view our Gallery. Such good news! Members are encouraged to bring a print or two to the next meeting for Rob to add to the Carol’s Catering and Café Camera Club Gallery. If you aren’t sure what you should bring for display, go to Carol’s for coffee or a meal some time and check it out. The food is awesome and reasonably priced – a good opportunity to enjoy a great meal and support Carol’s for her support for our club! All work displayed can be marked for sale – your choice.
It’s Not Too Late to Join the Club!
Do you know of anyone who you think might enjoy the Camera Club? Our fees are pro-rated. So, anyone registering in March would only pay $20 for the rest of the season. And anyone may come to any club meeting for a free ‘try-out.’
