December Meeting Notes

The next club meeting will be on Monday, December 9th.

- This meeting will have our first of two CLUB PRINT COMPETITIONS. It is important that we all arrive early for this meeting, due to the set-up required for the competition. It is suggested you try to arrive by 6:30 with your entries. Thanks! You may enter one only in each of the Categories of Traditional or Altered Reality, for a maximum of two entries total. You must choose your Level – Novice (Beginner), Intermediate (Average, middle of road experience) or Advanced (Skill developed at upper level of club members – eg: if you are at a more professional level or have won more than once in any club or other competitions...) Members will vote for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice in each of the groupings. Prizes for 1st place in each of the Categories at each Level will be a $25 gift certificate good for printing services from Rob Harden or Bob Schultz! (Total of 6 prizes awarded.)

Submit sizes 8”x10” to maximum 11”x14” unmatted prints, mounted on a rigid backing for display. For each entry, bring a 3”x4” sheet of paper with 1) the title of the picture, 2) the Category 3) and your Level printed on it. Bring a plain piece of white paper to cover your print prior to display. Your name must not appear anywhere on the prints or the papers. Prints not complying to these rules will not be judged, but will happily be displayed for members’ viewing.

For your information on Altered Reality: “Traditional” pictures may have minor adjustments, for example, cropping, sharpening, brightness, contrast, HDR and removing noise and minor distractions. Altered images refer to photographs that have been digitally manipulated to change their appearance, often affecting aspects like color, composition, or even the subject matter itself (eg: if you change the colour of something from its original colour, or if you add content, that is “altered.”) The image may or may not be recognized as its original form. Hope this helps for those who are unsure about this!

- A Presentation on Action/Speed/Motion will be given by Bob Schultz and Rob Harden. People have asked how best to depict action and movement in their photographs. This is where we will see how!

- Our Christmas Party will also be on this evening. Be sure to bring your special munchie treats to share with each other! Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, plates and utensils will be supplied by the Club.

3) This is the last chance to order Bird Feeder Wreaths, a club fundraiser. The wreaths are $25 each or two for $45. They are very natural, hand-made by Brenda Haidt, loved by all songbirds and a GREAT Christmas gift for bird lovers! If you want a wreath, contact Wanda Hudson ASAP by text at 306-631-7440 or email at wandahudson@sasktel.net.

4) VERY IMPORTANT! OUR ANNUAL MAIN FUNDRAISER WILL BE A RIB NIGHT AT THE CRUSHED CAN ON THRUSDAY, JANUARY 16th, 2025! The tickets are $25 each; the Club makes $12 per ticket, so it is a worthwhile fundraiser. And the ribs (choice between BQ or Greek) are fantastic!! This is what allows us to be able to afford to bring in the great Guest Presenters that we do. Many members purchase tickets for gifts or Christmas stocking stuffers. Please support your Club by purchasing at least a couple of tickets! Rachel Petroschuk will have the tickets for you at the December meeting.

5) A reminder: For ease of doing business, you may now make payments for any club item through e-transfer. E-Transfer to cameraclubmoosejaw@gmail.com A password is not required.

6) A reminder: We really need members to submit images for posting on the club website! Please go over your pictures and choose some digitals for submission (under 10 MB size) to Sheryl Parry at prairieparry@gmail.com. Your pictures do belong there! Thank you to those who have recently submitted images.

7) A reminder: Our MJCC Gallery at Carol’s Catering & Café wants your pictures! Our Gallery has vastly grown since last year! If you haven’t viewed the display yet, go to Carol’s some day for lunch or even coffee. You will love it! And a huge thanks to Carol for giving us the wall space for our art. This Gallery is something our members would never be able to afford – Carol makes it possible for us, so we encourage everyone to support her business this way. Consider putting one of your prints up for display or sale, especially if you have not done that yet! If you need your image printed, Rob Harden will tell you how to do this as well.

If you have any questions be sure to approach an executive member with them!
