2024/2025 Club Year! First Meeting September 9th

Hello Moose Jaw Camera Club Members!

We trust you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready to join us for the new 2023-24 club year! Your Executive has worked hard through the summer to develop a program that we hope will enthuse you for the new season. The program for the new year is attached!

Just some notes for the start of the season:

1) The club will be meeting the SECOND Monday of every month this year, except for October and November, due to holidays. See your brochure for the dates for each meeting.

2) The first meeting of the year will be on Monday, September 9th. This meeting will include a welcome, registration, introductions and presenting the program for the season. Due to its popularity last year, the evening programming will be “Popcorn and a Slideshow.” In response to members’ requests to share more of our own work, you are each invited to bring up to 20 images on a USB for viewing in the slideshow. Please give your USB to Rob Harden by 6:45 the night of the meeting. The theme is “Open,” and we think we will all enjoy this show!

Popcorn will be supplied. Bring your own refreshments. Bring new friends for a fun night! This meeting free for Guests! After this September 9th meeting, Guests pay $10 for any first Meeting or Outing; following that, their $10 they paid can be applied as a discount on a Membership Fee. (See #4 below.)

3) Our first Outing of the year will be an exciting “Drone Photography Presentation” at the Wakamow Valley Kiwanis River Park Pavilion on Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 pm. We will see the Presenter, Dwayne Senft from Regina, demonstrate the flying of his big drones, followed by a slide presentation on drone photography. Permission has been secured from CFB Moose Jaw for the flying display. Even if you are not totally enamored by drones, you won’t want to miss this Outing led by this very talented and entertaining presenter! This event will be advertised to the public for an admittance fee of $10; Camera Club members are free!

4) Guests are welcome to join us for any Meeting or Outing for a nominal fee of $10 for the first Meeting or Outing they attend. Should a Guest choose to attend any further Meetings or Outings, their $10 will happily be applied as a discount on their Membership Fee. The September meeting is free!

5) A new request this year: There are always just a few people who do the set-up and take-down for our meetings every time. That’s a lot of work and time for a few people. We want to reduce that burden for them in a simple way. So, we are asking that at each meeting, Members collect your own chair at the start, and return it to the storage at the end. Directions will be given at the meeting. Tables will be set up for you as usual. Thanks, Everyone!

6) There are some changes for the Slideshows, Critiques and Competitions this year, in response to addressing some of the comments from Members in our Club Survey in June. Your Executive has done their best to spotlight many of the Members’ wishes. The changes are covered in the Brochure and will be explained more fully at the September meeting.

7) We will be selling Bird Feeder Wreaths as a fundraiser for the Club. This will be something speaking to our nature and bird photography lovers! The wreaths are $25 each or two for $45. They are very natural, hand-made by Brenda Haidt, loved by all songbirds and a GREAT Christmas gift for bird lovers! They will be available at the September meeting for you to view and purchase.

8) A Member Discount Card from Wells Camera & Sound is one of the benefits of your membership this year. You will receive your discount card when you register.

9) We really need members to submit images for posting on the club website! Please go over your pictures and choose some for submission (under 10 MB size) to Sheryl Parry at prairieparry@gmail.com. She will be giving you more information on how to do this at our meeting. Your pictures do belong there!

10) Our MJCC Gallery at Carol’s Catering & Café wants your pictures! Our Gallery has vastly grown since last year! Go to Carol’s some day for lunch or even coffee, if you haven’t viewed the display yet. You will love it! And a huge thanks to Carol for giving us the wall space for our art. This Gallery is something our members would never be able to afford – Carol makes it possible for us, so we encourage everyone to support her business this way. Consider putting one of your prints up for display, especially if you have not done that yet! If you need your image printed, Rob Harden will tell you how to do this at our meeting as well.

That’s it for now! If you have any questions be sure to approach an executive member with them!
