Hello Moose Jaw Camera Club Members!
It’s hard to believe the summer is over and we are already well into our new membership year! Welcome back everyone, and welcome to our new members!
Here is your October Newsletter:
1) Remember, the club will be meeting the SECOND Monday of every month this year, except for October and November, due to holidays. See your brochure for the dates for each meeting.
2) The October 7th meeting will be a great one! First, we will have a Member Slideshow. The theme is “Macro/Close-Up.” Please bring NO MORE THAN FIVE digital images of your macro or close-up pictures on a USB to hand in to Rob Harding by 6:45 the night of the meeting. (These images want to be of close-ups, such as a close, tight focus on someone’s eyes or their face, or a flower or an insect; and might be taken with a macro lens, or very close space between the camera and the subject using a normal lens; or zooming right in tight with a long zoom lens.)
Macro photography is all about showcasing a subject larger than it is in real life — an extreme close-up of something small. An image of an insect that fills a five-by-seven-inch photo and a product shot of a cornflake that makes the cornflake look 4 inches long go well above life-size: both are examples of macro photography.
Close up photography refers to a tightly cropped shot that shows a subject (or object) up close and with significantly more detail than the human eye usually perceives. With close-up photography, you reduce the field of view, increasing the size of the subject, and creating a tight frame around your selected shot.
Our Guest Presenter at this meeting will be the “Toronado Hunter” Greg Johnson. If you have seen any of his work on FB or on-line, you will know you just have to be at this meeting!
3) Guests are always welcome to join us for any Meeting or Outing for a nominal fee of $10 for their first Meeting or Outing they attend. Should a Guest choose to attend any further Meetings or Outings, their $10 will happily be applied as a discount on their Membership Fee. Those registering any time through September to December will pay $60 for the year; those registering from January to June will pay $30 for the half year.
4) Reminder of a new request this year: There are always just a few people who do the set-up and take-down for our meetings every time. That’s a lot of work and time for a few people. We want to reduce that burden for them in a simple way. So, we are asking that at each meeting, Members collect your own chair at the start, and return it to the storage at the end. Directions will be given at the meeting. Tables will be set up for you as usual. Thanks, Everyone!
5) Another reminder that there are some changes for the Slideshows, Critiques and Competitions this year, in response to addressing some of the comments from Members in our Club Survey in June. The changes are covered in the Brochure and will be explained more fully at our meetings as they arise.
6) We are selling Bird Feeder Wreaths as a fundraiser for the Club. This is something speaking to our nature and bird photography lovers! The wreaths are $25 each or two for $45. They are very natural, hand-made by Brenda Haidt, loved by all songbirds and a GREAT Christmas gift for bird lovers! They will be available at our meetings for you to view and purchase. For pre-orders, contact Wanda Hudson at 306-631-7440.
7) A Member Discount Card from Wells Camera & Sound is one of the benefits of your membership this year. Be sure you receive your discount card once you have registered.
8) We really need members to submit images for posting on the club website! Please go over your images and choose some for submission (under 10 MB size) to Sheryl Parry at themoosejawcameraclub@gmail.com. She will be giving you more information on how to do this at our meeting. We want to share your work with the community!
9) Our MJCC Gallery at Carol’s Catering & Café wants your pictures! Our Gallery has vastly grown since last year! Go to Carol’s some day for lunch or even coffee, if you haven’t viewed the display yet. You will love it! And a huge thanks to Carol for giving us the wall space for our art. This Gallery space is something our members would never be able to afford – Carol makes it possible for us, so we encourage everyone to support her business this way. Consider putting one of your prints up for display, especially if you have not done that yet! If you need your image printed, Rob Harden will tell you how to do this.
That’s it for now! If you have any questions be sure to approach an executive member with them!

See you at our next meeting on October 7th!
