Hello Moose Jaw Camera Club Members!
We trust you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready to join us for the new 2023-24 club year! Your Executive has worked hard through the summer to develop a program that we hope will enthuse you for the new season. The program for the new year is attached.
Just some notes for the start of the season:
1) The club will be meeting the SECOND Monday of every month this year, in order to avoid several holiday weekends that fall on the first Monday of the month. The one exception will be October, which will be on the third Monday, to avoid the Thanksgiving weekend.
2) One of the benefits of your membership this year will be a Member Discount Card from Wells Camera & Sound. Details will be shared with you at our first meeting.
3) You are encouraged to bring a guest to any meeting. Interested photographers may come to their first meeting at no cost and with no obligation to take a membership. If you know of someone who you think would love to see what our club has to offer, be sure to invite them to come to a meeting, especially the first one! See details of that below:
4) The first meeting of the year will be on Monday, September 11th. This meeting will include a welcome, registration, introductions and presenting the program for the season. The evening programming will be “Popcorn and a Slideshow.” Bring your equipment to have fun photographing popping popcorn – and then indulge while viewing the Slideshow! In response to members’ requests to share more of our own work, you are each invited to bring up to 10 images on a USB for viewing in the slideshow. Please give your USB to Rob Harden by 6:45 the night of the meeting. The theme is “Open” and we think we will all enjoy this show!
5) Our first Outing of the year will be on Saturday, September 23rd. It will be a “Photography Scavenger Hunt” in downtown Moose Jaw. Members will be given the Scavenger Hunt sheet at the September meeting. You may choose to do your Scavenger Hunt individually and on your own time. Or, for those wishing to participate in a group, we will meet at 2:00 p.m. at the Crescent Park Band Shell.
6) This year, our Slideshow events and Competitions will all be “Open” themes. We have also increased the number of images members may submit to the Slideshows to FIVE this year. Also, new to this year, our Critiques will be themed. The first one in October will be “Leading Lines.” Members will be given directions on their themes at our meeting. The rules for our two competitions will be using the PRPA (Prairie Region of Photographic Arts) guidelines.
7) We really need members to submit images for posting on the club website! Please go over your pictures and choose some for submission to Sheryl Parry. She will be giving you information on how to do this at our meeting. As Sheryl says, “You are going to get out of your club what you put into it!”
8) It is also time to change our display at Carol’s Catering & Café in October. Consider putting one of your prints there for display, especially if you have not done that yet! If you need your image printed, Rob Harden will tell you how to do this at our meeting as well.
That’s it for now! If you have any questions be sure to approach an executive member with them! See you on the 11th!
